Since 1963, Temple Beth Am has been providing members of Pearl River and the surrounding communities with an informal yet traditional atmosphere to practice their Jewish faith. While fun and family oriented, Beth Am is as traditional as reform temples go. Since 1985, Rabbi Daniel Pernick has led the temple.

Regular Shabbat services are held every Friday night and Saturday morning. In addition, from September through June, a family service is held at 7:30 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. Special services are held for the High Holy Days and certain other holidays.

Supplementing the services is a rich religious education program for children, adolescents and adults.

Classes for children K-3 convene each Sunday. Children in grades four and five gather twice a week on Sundays and Tuesdays, while grades six and seven convene Sundays and Wednesdays. The temple's "Hebrew High," which encompasses grades eight through 10, meets each Tuesday. Post-confirmation students in grades 11 and 12 convene once a month.

Beth Am also offers a program for children with special needs in grades three through five, which meets once a week.

For adults, there are a number of education programs and classes that take place throughout the year. Classes like the Genesis Study Group, which gathers Mondays at 7:45p.m., and Jews in the News, which convenes on the first and third Tuesdays of every month, are examples of such programs.

Rounding out the rich variety of offerings available at Temple Beth Am are groups for the temple's men, women, seniors and youth.

Additional activities and events are held throughout the year for the congregation in general. Wednesday night Bingo is one such event that is held each week as a fun way for congregants to gather together while helping to support the temple. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with Bingo starting at 7:30 p.m. For information on other events and activities, please see the calendar on the temple's website.

In addition to all the services offered to its congregants, Beth Am looks to benefit its larger community as well with a variety of activities throughout the year. One way in which it does this is by hosting numerous organizations, such as the Orangetown seniors group twice a month.

Another way in which Temple Beth Am reaches out to the community is through participating in Midnight Run, an organization that provides food, clothing and other essential items to the homeless.

For more information, please contact Temple Beth Am directly or visit its website.
