<p>A group of Pearl River businessmen known as the Wednesday Luncheon Group, began meeting in 1925 to discuss ways to improve the town and to plan social events. They eventually chose to organize as a more formal service club and were chartered as the Pearl River Rotary Club on December 12, 1935.</p>
<p>The first Rotary Club was founded by Paul P. Harris in 1905 in Chicago. This is the local chapter Rotary International, a service organization with 33,000 clubs worldwide and over 1.2 million members. Rotary Clubs are made up of volunteers who work to improve their communities and the world around them by fighting hunger, working to improve health, aiding those in need of education and joining in peace efforts. The organization's motto is <i>Service Above Self</i>.</p> <p> </p>
