I curious why was a special meeting called and why did it occur during working hours? Is there anyRead More regulation on providing advanced public notice for what I assume is an open meeting? The article gives one the sense that the meeting was called and timed to avoid public participation. Strange.

I think that at this point, Ilan could promise us all $1,000 checks if he were elected, and it stillRead More wouldn't change people's opinions of him. Stellar reputation he's made for himself!
Guri Berger June 18, 2013 at 11:41 pm
Great idea by a great man. Ilan, you have represented our village well and will do only good thingsRead More for our county!

In an alternative universe, everything succeeds and fails at the same time for the same reasonsRead More because of the same person, who is born and dies on the same second. There is no cause or effect because in actuality, everything happens at once... Wait a tick... that's YOUR universe because you're all morons. Please join the rest of humanity. We experience time sequentially. We understand that if a person lives in a town, or worked for a town several years before financial problems started, that person isn't responsible for the destruction of a town. We understand that a County Hospital, which up until 5 years ago was making a profit, cannot just be closed because the state stops funding it, so we need to look for solutions. We understand that over the course of the last 6 years, a republican county executive has overestimated sales tax, not the legislature. Often, I have been criticized because I am the informed party. Join me. Become informed. It doesn't take long to look up legislative records. It's more time-consuming than just shooting your mouths off because you're being paid by Ed Day.

It seems the PM has been using non union labor to perform work. Could this be someone protestingRead More this? Who was the vehicle registered to? Stolen truck?

Not to mention the cost of maintenance!
Deb June 18, 2013 at 10:33 am
Imagine how cool it would be to hang out ON the river! I think they're missing an amazingRead More opportunity to do something forward-thinking; a combo of the High Line and Walkway Over The Hudson. The cost of tearing down the bridge is supposed to be $65 million...how many years of maintenance would that pay for?
Eileen Gilroy June 18, 2013 at 06:11 pm
@Deb, I agree. I have taken advantage of both the High Line and The Walkway Over the Hudson. WhatRead More a missed opportunity not to turn the bridge into a park. How great would it be to walk to Nyack & Piermont and vice versa.

I had the pleasure of working with Justice Angiolillo for several years when I was a senior counselRead More with the New York State Attorney General's Organized Crime Task Force. In that capacity it was necessary for me to have judges such as Angiolillo review and sign wiretap orders, extensions and search warrants, often on short notice, at night or on weekends. Angiolillo was always available and knowledgeable about the orders and cases he reviewed. He displayed a strong understanding of the law and issues involved in his oversight of OCTF's investigations. I highly recommend that the voters re-elect him in November. Michael E. Bongiorno

The anguish and pain caused by the acts of the two brutes who lack the basic decency to expressRead More shame and remorse and to Greg for forgiveness screams volumes about how low human beings can sink into the wild animal world. They should never be allowed to live among us.
Charles Clewsow June 18, 2013 at 08:16 am
Interesting, we seem to have a lot of support for the DEC to make the decision. After United WaterRead More was mandated to find new sources of water by one government agency and has fulfilled their part of the bargain, all business leaders and ordinary folks want the other government agency to come to a positive conclusion so we do not have a shortage of water.
Charles Clewsow June 18, 2013 at 08:27 am
Most States and Federal Government say this is the time for improvements to our infrastructure whileRead More interest rates are low and unemployment is high. There is no reason to hold this project captive for a few enviro groups. If Jimmy Carter was building a desal plant in a third world country, he would be awarded Another Nobel Prize., supported by the these same folks.

Of course it is important to have good clean water Watchdog. I certainly don't want to see anyRead More branch of government take over any more than they have to. They can't even run the government, we don't need them running companies. I am mostly complaining about summer surcharges when there is definitely no sign of a drought. They give us a pretty good increase in the summer and my bill is really high. I'm just stating a fact that all these little raises add up and before you know it, you have to move out of Rockland because it just isn't affordable anymore (especially on a fixed income). Once anything is raised, it very rarely goes back down.

Dump Sparaco and the position is almost paid for.
Robert Tompkins June 17, 2013 at 06:02 pm
I have not seen the original position description. Based on what Mr. Day is proposing in his blog itRead More appears to be a high level position with a mix of internal auditor, budget analyst, legislative analyst and financial analyst. The challenge is finding someone with the suitable work skill set that also includes appropriate government experience and who is a County resident, unless the thinking is to recruit otherwise. The population of Rockland County may be too few to find the right person. One four year term without possibility of reappointment may not be an incentive for highly qualified applicants. One person will have limited influence in this position without a staff. Having several experienced internal auditors, budget, financial and legislative analysts along with support staff would have this function be more effective. What range of budget amounts is the county willing to commit to do the job right? $400k-900k annually? One challenge for this position is to obtain information in a timely manner from any and all departments. Unless the law makes it very clear about access to all information, including confidential, and the penalties resisting so, there may be bureaucratic challenges as well. One alternative is to increase the legislative budget staff. That can help with providing financial oversight for the legislators.

why is a person that owns a gun a ''gun nut''? if you own a baseball bat does it make you aRead More ''baseball nut''? would it make some of you feel better if he vented w/ an axe?
richie June 18, 2013 at 04:22 pm
Uhhh I think that would make him an axe nut, what about we all just agree to ban all bullets and endRead More this. I sincerely hope this poor woman is in the best of care and pray for her, everyone.

This was such a nice time. Thank you to all the organizers and people who helped out throughout theRead More night. It was great to see friends and neighbors come out to support the fight against cancer. And it was especially nice to see all the youth there participating. Another reason why Pearl River is a great place to live.

Having had cancer take my dad way too early, I was glad to again be there in support of the goodRead More efforts of the American Cancer Society to find a cure for this dreaded disease.
M. Leybra June 16, 2013 at 07:07 pm
What exactly does American Cancer Society DO? Tell you not to smoke, get annual check-ups &Read More otherwise promote pink ribbons, "awareness," relays. They NEVER breathe a word against the endless amounts of carcinogenic pesticdes, herbicdes & cancer causing chemicals approved & added daily to the environment & our food & water that continuously cause more & more cancers in people & animals, they remain neutral. It's all about dollars & can check for yourself the same as I did.
