Not to mention the cost of maintenance!

Imagine how cool it would be to hang out ON the river! I think they're missing an amazingRead More opportunity to do something forward-thinking; a combo of the High Line and Walkway Over The Hudson. The cost of tearing down the bridge is supposed to be $65 million...how many years of maintenance would that pay for?
Eileen Gilroy June 18, 2013 at 06:11 pm
@Deb, I agree. I have taken advantage of both the High Line and The Walkway Over the Hudson. WhatRead More a missed opportunity not to turn the bridge into a park. How great would it be to walk to Nyack & Piermont and vice versa.

Interesting, we seem to have a lot of support for the DEC to make the decision. After United WaterRead More was mandated to find new sources of water by one government agency and has fulfilled their part of the bargain, all business leaders and ordinary folks want the other government agency to come to a positive conclusion so we do not have a shortage of water.

Most States and Federal Government say this is the time for improvements to our infrastructure whileRead More interest rates are low and unemployment is high. There is no reason to hold this project captive for a few enviro groups. If Jimmy Carter was building a desal plant in a third world country, he would be awarded Another Nobel Prize., supported by the these same folks.

Of course it is important to have good clean water Watchdog. I certainly don't want to see anyRead More branch of government take over any more than they have to. They can't even run the government, we don't need them running companies. I am mostly complaining about summer surcharges when there is definitely no sign of a drought. They give us a pretty good increase in the summer and my bill is really high. I'm just stating a fact that all these little raises add up and before you know it, you have to move out of Rockland because it just isn't affordable anymore (especially on a fixed income). Once anything is raised, it very rarely goes back down.

I would like to clarify that the fields used by PRLL are not "town owned, tax supportedRead More fields". The complex is privately owned by the American Legion post 1199 and PRLL pays rent to the American Legion for use of the fields. The cost of operating and maintaining the complex is done completely by the families who play there and Verizon has allowed PRLL families to use the parking lot as a courtesy. PRLL is grateful to the American Legion and Verizon for use of their spaces over the years and we hope that this parking issue will be rectified soon. Feel free to email me directly if you would like more information about PRLL. Joan Bourke President PRLL jmbprll@aol.com

I stand corrected. I think the gist of my comment stands nevertheless. The fact that our LL scheduleRead More is subject to the whims and "courtesy" of This corporation is a sad state of affairs. No one seems to be standing up for the kids here. I'm all for corporate sponsorship, or corporate partnerships but this relationship seems a little less equitable and more reluctant charity. I do hope Verizon gets bad press for this and I for one am happy to speak the word.

Thanks to Joan B for clarifying. She gives countless hours. On a PRLL note, who covers the cost ofRead More the District all Star teams? If the answer is PRLL, should there be more transparency in the process of selecting which lucky kids get those nice hats, shirts, and opportunities?

Couple of months ago I went in to ask for help from reference desk ..and was met with a lot of sighsRead More and eye rolling for a very simple answer to a simple question.. I will remember that when I place my vote!

So thrilled to see a scholarship in Judy's name. She was the consummate teacher and devoted to herRead More students. Glad to see her memory lives on....

You must be the only person in Westchester that doesn't have wonderful feelings/memories aboutRead More Playland. It is so sad.
Deirdre Curran May 14, 2013 at 01:22 pm
Rob Astorino claims "Families don't go to Playland anymore." But when I was there on aRead More rainy cold opening day on Saturday, I was SURROUNDED by nothing but families - even HIS family was there. They all came out in the lousy weather to have a good time. Parents and kids and grandparents and every combo of aunt uncle cousin etc. you could imagine, all different colors, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, many different languages being spoken, everyone happy to see the place open again, getting along, smiling, having a good time. I think I was about the only person there who *wasn't* with kids. Families families families. But...don't you know...families don't go to Playland anymore? People love Playland. They want to see it brought back to life as a vibrant amusement park, not dismantled for a grassy field and indoor sports facility.

I agree 100%. I was there as well last Sat. and brought my high school age daughter. Most of herRead More White Plains High School friends were there with their families. It was a great day for everyone.

Good luck getting treatment. You would be better off getting arrested, pleading a deal to go to aRead More drug rehab. Health insurance does not cover drug rehab for 28 days, you would need an additional rider on your policy and this still would not guarantee your admittance into a facility. The insurance company's want you do out patient and if you fail at that numerous times over then maybe you can get into a 28 day program. It's a total Catch 22.

The presentation last night was excellent and hopefully it will help start the conversation on allRead More levels - prescription drugs are like weapons - they should be locked up!

There was nothing done to improve safety to the workers or the customer after the robbery... He gotRead More more then cigarettes he shot his gun, got a few grand and a few 100 dollars worth of cigarettes, plus people last month were arrested for shooting heroin in the bathrooms, no locks on the bathrooms, no security, drug use in parked cars on CVS property, The fact that the company and the town do nothing about this is rediculous.
