The math boggles the mind...12 million is a nice headline...24pounds not so much

If you are stupid enough to do a crime, no matter what your race is....you do the time!! Let's stopRead More accusing law enforcement and blame the idiots who do the crime no matter what their last name or race is. Great job by NY State Police.

Beth where is the great job part in this article. they stopped a truck for no tag and found 12 kilosRead More of h. they had no clue anything was in the truck. i'm wondering what they needed the truck for, how long they were driving round before they were spotted and how many deliveries they made before they got caught. they certainly did not rent the truck to pick up 12 kilos. and why is it important that the h was worth $12mil. does the DA think anyone will be going cold turkey due to this find

You know as much as the NYS Troopers can be pricks, you've got to give them some credit. When theyRead More set up speed traps they get OUT of their cars with radar guns and actually point it at cars, then have a chase car down the road. Unlike most PD's, when they hand you that ticket you have to appreciate the effort that went into it.
Scott Peterson April 18, 2014 at 11:29 pm
In my experiences, the State Police I've encountered in my travels across the country have alwaysRead More displayed a level of courtesy and professionalism I've often found wanting in smaller organizations. I've never encountered a prick as I define the term though were I to include the term to mean one who seemingly allows no exceptions, I could see the term as valid.
knee jerk April 19, 2014 at 09:07 am
Well put definition Scott, seemingly describing Maryland State Troopers to a tee.
Slainte April 16, 2014 at 09:55 pm
Noname is right. Call the person what he is. Make people aware. Regardless of what he is, describeRead More him to help others be aware in safe. Absolutely nothing wrong w that. Go back under the shelter of your liberal rock B.
Bruce April 17, 2014 at 06:50 pm
James, What were you doing in the parking lot long enough to determine someone suspicious? YourRead More only adjective is the color of his skin? The only people I've seen in parking lots and we're suspect is the WHITE couple snatching purses. I wonder if people felt safe just because they didn't seem "suspicious".

Ladies....please be careful! Don't leave your purse for a split second in a shopping cart. Only takeRead More your license and credit card that you plan to use. These theifs can turn your life upside down in a split second. Watch who is leaving the store the same time as you, look to see who is standing around and try to have someone with you if possible. This happened to my Mom years back and what a mess to untangle! Let's be smart.

According to a post on the Yahoo Group Nyack Social Scene, La Fontana was going to charge $10 extraRead More for brunch this Sunday because it is Palm Sunday AND a Street Fair day. Guess that this story (that ran as almost-lead on the NY tv networks) is payback time La Fontana. Enjoy extra business from increased "traffic" - don't rip people off !!!!

Why is that a policy to not publish names of people arrested for Misdemeanors? That makes no senseRead More at all. Alleged rapitst names get published all the time without nary a scintilla of trial evidence or guilty plea. How is that someone unproven of guilt , possibly by a vindictive or coniving woman(Not saying they are innocent but always the possibility) can be dragged into the mud forever? They never print a retraction in newsmedia? Just curious. Google that person and forever he is an alleged rapist.
James R April 11, 2014 at 12:00 pm
They were happy to give out the name on WRCR 1300 this morning.
Scott Walters April 11, 2014 at 05:54 pm
Sad days for journalism when you cannot finish the job. Even the Urinal News puts names in theRead More police blotter...and often for misdemeanors.
Sally Savage April 10, 2014 at 05:39 pm
AND...my objection to our Police is that they leave their car motors running - polluting for ages -Read More WAY past the County three minute limit (which no-one seems to know about anyway). Does it really take so long to start up the motor for a chase, ticket, etc.? Rockalnd law is 3-minute idle limit - ice, snow, cold, or heat
willie 6 April 14, 2014 at 08:35 am
WE THE PEOPLE pay for the gas. observed a police car in front of PIERMONT VILLAGE HALL running andRead More came back the other way a half hour later and the POLICE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING. WHAT A WASTE !

I think it's great! Should be a priority everywhere, not just the highways. Might make someRead More enemies here, though that's not my intent. A thought though; how do police give tickets for using mobile devices when they themselves use them while driving without hands-free devices?

For starters I'm sure you meant rehab not AA. Rehab unfortunately for the most part is a joke.Read More There's some success stories but mostly scamming junkies and drug dealers who actually use rehab as a network for buying/selling narcotics. Sorry to rain on the parade but that's the sad truth. What we need is strict drug sentencing and harsher minimum sentencing, not court ordered koombayah programs.
Charles Clewsow April 5, 2014 at 10:01 pm
Actually I did mean AA or NA. Both work. Both are self supporting from their own donations. Both areRead More out of the realm of government who screw up everything they touch. These feel good programs are useless but the press loves it as do the PR people for our overpaid police.

What is a "vulnerable adult"?
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) March 31, 2014 at 06:55 pm

Robert F. You should learn about St Francis of Assisi. But be forewarned, you might be shocked.
Robert F. March 26, 2014 at 01:17 pm
Brad, I am aware of St. Francis' compassion for animals and the annual blessing of the animals, etc.Read More Please do not confuse compassion with this disturbing trend towards exalting animals to the same level as humankind. God gave man dominion over the animals, as explained in Genesis. I'm no biblical scholar, but I think that if you are Christian, then what we are told in scripture supersedes our personal interpretation, which may include the mistaken idea that animals exist on an equal basis with man. I love animals and would never torment, kill or otherwise abuse an animal, but they exist for the use of man as a source of food, beasts of burden, companionship, etc. I just object to this increasing national confusion of priorities and values with respect to human and animal life.

Hey, Shawn, the police report was issued Monday afternoon, I wrote about it Tuesday morning, and asRead More prthinker says, above, it was resolved by Tuesday afternoon. The reporting was timely.
prthinker March 19, 2014 at 12:24 pm
Well...Actually OPD released the resolution notification before 2, I believe, because PRSD'sRead More circulation of the update was sent to the community before 3p. The email Patch sent to our emails this morning had the unresolved Monday story as its subject line and its lead story belies the timeliness assertion. Even the JN had it right by midnight yesterday, but they have a whole team covering Rockland and Westchester, while it seems Ms Taliaferro is holding down the fort and covering the same geography on her own.
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) March 19, 2014 at 03:55 pm
