The unit exists to…More investigate and penalize companies and individuals who engage in fraudulent billing of Medicaid, a state-run program that provides health benefits for New Yorkers who cannot afford their own care. The unit also deals with the abuse or negligence of individuals residing in hospitals, nursing homes or other similar facilities.</p> <p>New York is one of 49 states that have a Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The Pearl River office is one of seven state-wide offices.
