Pearl River Wiffle Ball Event Supporting Special Needs Children

The Ridge Street Wiffle Ball Tournament and Neighborhood Block Party in Pearl River enters its fifth year with the event Sunday, Sept 1, each time supporting a worthy charity.

This year, the money raised will go to support Lourdes Kids of Rockland, a non-profit corporation recently created to fund annual Easter week pilgrimages to Lourdes, France for young people with special needs.

The initial plan is to send two young people along with two nurses, two helpers and two young people who are not disabled on a trip to the shrine of Healing and Hope in Lourdes in 2014. The Rockland Group will join with more than 50 others, meeting over 2,000 of their peers in France.

Organizers of the Wiffle Ball Tournament and Block Party are asking for donations of food, beverages or gift cards in addition to team sponsorships of $150. They are expecting up to 750 participants starting at 9:30 a.m.  Sept. 1.
