Orangetown Supervisor: Wettje Loses Appeal

UPDATED: According to a representative of Walter Wettje, the Republican challenger has lost his appeal of Andy Stewart's victory in the race for Orangetown Supervisor.

Republican challenger Walter Wettje's appeal of Democrat Andy Stewart's victory in the race for Orangetown Supervisor was denied Friday.

The Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Department in Brooklyn heard Wettje's appeal Wednesday. Stewart confirmed that they had received the court report Friday night and that he expects the election results to be certified Monday.

Stewart won by two votes after six of the remaining absentee ballots were counted Dec. 12, but the appeals court granted a stay to keep the Rockland County Board of Elections from certifying the results Dec. 13.
Wettje is appealing Acting State Supreme Court Judge VictorAlfieri's rulings in the case, which include the decision issued last Wednesday to not count six of the remaining absentee ballots.

The earliest the Rockland County Board of Elections could certify the results is Monday.
