Rockland County Elections 2013: Day Wins

UPDATE 11:35PM: Ed Day appeared at the Comfort Inn in front of a cheering crowd after David Fried conceded.

"I think the most important thing I can do right now is give a few thank-yous," Day said. "This is your victory. Don't forget that."

"Chris Day, my son, I warned you that he was skilled in two things critical to politics: combat and logistics...We ran on issues. That's what people voted on and this I owe to my son Chris," he said. 

UPDATE 11:30PM:
With 87 percent of the vote in, Ed Day has 31,726 votes and David Fried has 28,851. There are also thousands of absentee ballots to be counted.

UPDATE 10:53PM: Neither candidate has taken a lead for long as the counting goes on in the race for County Executive. David Fried had 14,630 votes with 48 percent of the districts reporting;  Ed Day had 15,506.

UPDATE 10:48PM: In the race for County Clerk, Paul Piperato is far ahead of Donna Held with 48 percent of districts reporting. Piperator has 18,705 votes; Held 7,636. 

Meanwhile, Sheriff Lou Falco spoke to the crowd about the race for county executive. He acknowledged it is tight but predicted a victory for David Fried.

UPDATE 10:07PM: Unofficial results are beginning to trickle in to Rockland County Board of Elections.

In the county executive race, with 14 percent of districts reporting, David Fried has 3,428 votes, Ed Day has 4,052; Thomas Sullivan has 164 and there are 6 write-in votes.

UPDATE 9:15PM: The polls are closed and candidates for office in Rockland County are waiting on results.

In the race for County Executive, candidate Ed Day is at the Comfort Inn and Suites in Nanuet with other Rockland Republicans and his opponent, David Fried, is at Casa Mia Manor House in Blauvelt with Rockland's Democrats. Conservative Thomas Sullivan also ran for the office. 

In the race for Rockland County Clerk, Republican Donna Held challenged incumbent Democrat Paul Piperato.
