Chanin Family Benefit Set for June 1

During the worst of Hurricane Sandy, a large tree fell on a home in Pearl River, killing Jeffrey Chanin and injuring his wife and two of his children.

The Pearl River community rallied to help at the time and will do so again with A Day for the Chanin Family Saturday, June 1 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kaufman Campgrounds at 667 Blauvelt Road in Pearl River.

There will be food, beverages and live music provided by three local bands. Entertainment also includes children's activities, rides, raffles and an antique fire truck on display.

Tickets to the event cost $25 per adult, $10 for children (ages 13-18) and will include food and beverages. They can be purchased at the event or in advance. Children under 13 will be admitted free, but must be accompanied by an adult.

Raffle entries will cost $10 per ticket. Prizes will include a two nights in a suite at the Sheraton NY in Manhattan, pro sports tickets and gift cards to local businesses.

There will be two donation tables set up at the event. All funds raised will go to aid the Chanin family.

Checks should be made out to the "Chanin Family Fund." They can be mailed to Excelsior Engine Company at 1 Mike Kernan Drive, Pearl River, NY 10965. For more information, call Damon O'Keefe at (845) 341-3151 or Samantha Patterson at (845) 494-1215.
