Pearl River Field Hockey Stifles Sleepy Hollow

Updated with details and reaction to Pearl River's 8-0 playoff victory at home against Sleepy Hollow.

No. 4 seed Pearl River dominated early and cruised to an 8-0 victory at home against No. 13 Sleepy Hollow in the first round of th Section 1 Class B field hockey playoffs Friday.

"I thought they came out really aggressive and really pumped," Pearl River Head Coach Shane Carlacci said. "They are just excited to be in the playoffs. They want to show everyone the talent they have. We are finally starting to get a little more respect as a program and we want to keep building on that."

Maggie Davin got the Pirates started with a pair of early goals. Leading scorer Courtney Ocasal scored threee goals and assisted on another and Erin Dolphin had a goal and two assists for the Pirates (11-2-4).

"Historically, we've had a lot of games we've won or lost by one," Carlacci said. "To not have to worry today, to come out fast and strong, was definitely a positive for us."

Pearl River will play Tuesday at home against the winner of Friday's first-round game between No. 5 John Jay-Cross River and No. 12 Putnam Valley.

"The four seed is easily the highest seed we've had," Carlacci said. "To have another home game, and it seems like a lot of kids came out....it's really exciting for them to get recognized by their peers and teachers."

Ocasal agreed that the Pirates are looking to prove themselves and show how far the program has come.

"We really just grew together (this year)," Ocasal said. "We know each other's strengths and weaknesses.

"Nobody knows we are really good at field hockey."
