Pearl River Sports: Girls Cross Country Runs to Individual Honors

Pearl River's Kelly Hayes continued to add to her impressive resume by earning All-State honors for 2013

That was just one in a long list of individual honors for the Pirates, who won a Section 1 team championship:

  • All-State First Team: Kelly Hayes
  • All-State Fifth Team: Ailish Durcan
  • All-State Sixth Team: Catherine Hayward
  • All-State Honorable Mention: Emma Haley
  • All-Section First Team: Hayes, Durcan, Haley, Catherine Rayward
  • Rockland County Female Cross Country Runner of the Year: Hayes
  • Rockland County Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year: Dan Doherty
  • All County First Team: Hayes, Haley, Rayward
  • All-County Second Team: Durcan, Kaitlyn Harding
  • All-County Honorable Mention: Erin Clinton, Laura Cooper, Jesse McCarthy, Ann McCormack
  • All League First Team: Clinton, Cooper, Durcan, Haley, Harding, Hayes, McCarthy, Rayward
The team also earned New York State Scholar Athlete Team Awards, as did all of Pearl River's fall sports squads. Cross Country's 96.42 was the highest among the Pirates' teams and the best in the program's history.

  • Many of those same runners will compete for Pearl River in the Pearl River Holiday Festival Friday in the Levy Fieldhouse at Rockland Community College. Other schools expected to participate include Albertus Magnus, Alexander Hamilton, Arlington, Beacon, Clarkstown North, Clarkstown South, Cornwall, East Syracuse Minoa, Edgemont, Eldred, Fox Lane, Hackensack, Haldane, Irvington, John Jay-EF, Monroe Woodbury, Murray Bergtraum, Nanuet, Newton, North Rockland, Nyack, Ossining, Paramus, Pawling, Poughkeepsie, RC Ketcham, Rye, Scarsdale, Somers, St. Francis Prep (girls), Suffern, Tappan Zee, Townsend Harris, Vernon, Verona, Wayne Valley, Westlake, White Plains and Yonkers
Friday, Dec. 27
  • Boys and girls indoor track and field: Pearl River competes in the Pearl River Holiday Festival at Rockland Community College's Lefy Fieldhouse, 8:30 a.m.
  • Ice hockey: Pearl River vs. Suffern, 7:15 p.m. at Sport-O-Rama, 7:15 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 28
  • Wrestling: Pearl River Mike O'Connell Tournament, 10 a.m.
  • Ice hockey: Pearl River vs. Byram Hills at Brewster Ice Rink, 8:50 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 29
  • Boys basketball: Pearl River vs. Dobbs Ferry in the Slam Dunk Tournament Showcase game at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, 3 p.m.
