Pearl River Sports: Boys Soccer, Volleyball, Field Hockey Advance

Four Pearl River fall sports teams faced opening-round playoff matchups Friday. All four won, though only three advanced past the weekend.

The Pearl River girls soccer team cruised past Poughkeepsie, 7-0, at home in a play-in-game Friday, but the Pirates' hopes of repeating as Section 1 champions ended with a 1-0 loss at Rye 

This weekend's other Pearl River sports results included:

  • Boys soccer: Pearl River 4, Hendrick Hudson 2 -- Brian Chiarello scored two goals and assisted on one as the Pirates won a first-round Section 1 Class A playoff game at home. Read more here
  • Field hockey: Pearl River 8, Sleepy Holllow 0 -- Courtney Ocasal scored three goals and assisted on one and Annie McBride made eight saves for the Pirates, who dominated early on the way to a Section 1 Class B playoff victory at home. Read morehere
  • Volleyball: Pearl River 3, Rye 1 -- Pearl River, the No. 11 seed, went on the road to beat No. 6 Rye. 
  • Football: Pearl River 41, Port Chester 13 -- The Pirates won on the road in non-playoff action.

  • Boys cross country: Pearl River runs in the Section 1 Championships at Bowdown Park, 2 p.m.
